From practice to international innovation policy. And back.
Experience from science parks, innovation hubs and public sector innovation meets international policy and learning between countries. The exchange works in both directions.
From organisations to system capability
Within UNECE, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Jakob has worked on innovation ecosystems, transformative innovation policy and Innovation Enhancing Procurement.
This work connects to the experience of building innovation hubs: how do we develop the relationships, roles and institutional conditions that enable many actors to create change together?
Public demand as a driver
Jakob's experience of innovation procurement began on the supplier side through Wide Ideas and a European collaboration between university hospitals. The work later developed further with Digital Well Arena, Compare and Lina Svensberg.
The central question is how the public sector can drive innovation based on real needs and use procurement as an instrument in that process. This requires innovation capability, collaboration and ways of working that help new solutions develop.
Learning across contexts
International expert work involves engaging with countries facing different economic and institutional conditions, including economies in transition.
This makes context essential. A useful principle needs to translate into local mandates, resources and relationships. At the same time, experience from other settings can challenge assumptions we take for granted at home.
Working on a challenge that extends beyond a single organisation?
